    Invasion of the i-men
Behold! The i-men. Gareth White of New Future Graphic made them using Photo Booth, some props and a pile of imagination. Each is a work of art in itself, but look what happens when you put them all together: People are suddenly asking for stickers. Can’t blame them, really. How to fix the LED spotlight effect on MacBook Pro

I hope that soon this tip sheet becomes obsolete. Apple could make that happen with a simple firmware update for this problem, I’m guessing. I’m also guessing they may be dragging their heels on it in spite of criticism because of a possible pending release of new MacBooks and MacBook Pros this Fall.

This issue is one affecting only the MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pros have a backlit display (and a backlit keyboard for easier typing in the dark). This backlit area is lit by LED lights. These LED lights power [...]

Microsoft may have thrown Apple an iPod nano headache
Apple is notifying some of its customers this week that it will be unable to meet quoted delivery times for its new 16GB iPod nanos, fueling rumors that the company was forced to make a last minute change to the product line, possibly at the hands of rival Microsoft.

Last night, Apple's WebKit group announced the new SquirrelFish Extreme, a major new retooling of the SquirrelFish JavaScript engine originally announced in June. The update comes before SquirrelFish even had the time to make it into production versions of Safari.

Potential iPhone usability and interface improvements
A new series of iPhone-related patent filings touch on some interface enhancements that could potentially find their way into a future version of the handset's operating system, including more immediate access to application settings and interactive notification panel that presents a list of communications missed while the phone is in a locked state.

Microsoft fights back by embracing the I’m A PC character for new ad campaign

Microsoft has taken a beating in the customer relations department in recent months. Between the botched release of Vista and Apple’s funny and wildly successful ad campaign featuring John Hodges as the inept PC and Justin Long as the hipster Mac, it was time to fight back.

First they tried Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates. Not surprisingly, the Seinfeld / Gates ads were not a success (Did anyone ever really like that show?). They were muddled, and confusing, and well - just not funny. Microsoft cancelled the ads (Seinfeld [...]
